You would think that because you are trying to give away free money that applicants will flock to you right? Unfortunately, that is not always the case and part of the reason can lie within your application. Here are 3 tips to improve your scholarship application to get more applications this year.
Go mobile – This one is self-explanatory, today’s students are always on their mobile devices and so should your scholarship application. Human behavior has changed to wanting to do tasks online and on the go. Your application should match their behavior, after switching to mobile we have seen scholarship applications go up by over double the amount they received the previous year.
Easy on the personal information – Students and their parents for that matter are concerned about the information they give out. Especially when it comes to social security numbers, tax forms. Try to avoid those items as much as possible, we have found that making one of these items required can reduce the number of applications you receive by 25% or higher.
Get your expertise from students – One term that I have become very familiar with as I continue with Scholar’s App is the term “Usability Testing”. This is where I and my team dedicate time to just talking to our users and getting their feedback on our process, website, services etc. This helped us learn about their perspective and how to better improve our service. I would recommend that you do the same thing with your application. Talk to people about your application and how they interpret it, the results might surprise you. Students might be interpreting your questions differently than you intended, or they might just get confused by your application period. We do this for our clients with certain packages, from doing these I decided to share one that keeps popping up. Get rid of the fax number on your application, no one uses them anymore. If you still use fax, check out Paubox.
