The funding is $1,000 for Fall and $1,000 for Spring, consecutively, provided the recipient maintains a 2.5 grade point average while taking a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester.

Award also includes life membership to the UWAA, a $500 value.


University of Wyoming Fred Gray Memorial Scholarship – 250

The funding is $250 for Fall and $250 for Spring, consecutively, provided the recipient maintains a 3.0 grade point average while taking a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester for senior status students, or a minimum of 9 credit hours each semester for Graduate Students.

The Robert E. Murray Scholarship has been established in 2017 to encourage undergraduates, graduates and researchers in the academic pursuits in implementing innovation that can change the mining industry through the inclusion or adaptation of cutting-edge technologies and innovative processes. The recipient will demonstrate an aptitude towards innovation or participated in an internship of an undergraduate project benefiting the mining industry.

Steven C. Potter Scholarship – Varies

Steven C. Potter was a well-respected, well-liked, and highly successful economic geologist who worked his entire career in pursuit of discoveries, largely across North and South America, for companies such as Ranchers Development, Homestake, Bear Creek Mining, Kennecott Exploration, and BHP Billiton, in addition to several successful junior exploration groups. The Steven C. Potter Scholarship (Potter Scholarship) is to be awarded annually to a graduate student who is an SME student member, and whose thesis is directed toward furthering the understanding of ore deposit systems and their formation, geologic mapping and analysis of an ore deposit or mining district, or developing concepts or tools that may be used in economic geology or exploration.

Stewart R. Wallace Memorial Scholarship – Varies

The Stewart R. Wallace Memorial Scholarship (Wallace Scholarship) was founded in 2011 through a generous contribution from the estate of Stewart R. Wallace. The Wallace Scholarship is awarded annually to a master’s degree candidate in geology or geological science who plans to pursue a career in the field of exploration geology.

MPD Div and Richard Klimpel Memorial Scholarship – Varies

The Richard Klimpel/MPD Scholarships are open to undergraduate or graduate students to students interested in pursuing careers in the area of mineral and metallurgical processing.

J. H. Fletcher and Co. Scholarship – Varies

The J.H. Fletcher & Co. Scholarship is awarded annually to up to two students pursuing an undergraduate degree in mining or minerals engineering, with a desire to use their skills to apply technology to underground mine planning, operations, or maintenance. Students pursuing degrees in mechanical or electrical engineering may also be considered if they are minoring in mining engineering or show a strong desire for a career in the underground mining industry.

Rong Yu Wan Ph.D. Dissertation Scholarship in Metallurgical Engineering – Varies

Dr. Rong Yu Wan (1932-2009) was an internationally renowned metallurgist and 22-year member of SME. During her career, Dr. Wan not only made many important contributions in the field of metallurgical engineering but also tirelessly mentored many young scientists and students. The Rong Yu Wan Ph.D. Dissertation Scholarship will be presented annually to a recent Ph.D. recipient for outstanding dissertation research in the general area of metallurgical engineering (that is, mineral processing, hydrometallurgy or extractive metallurgy, etc.).

C and E Division and John Sidney Marshall Memorial Scholarship – Varies

The Coal & Energy Division of SME annually awards scholarships to promising college students who have chosen as a career path the field of mining engineering with an emphasis on coal mining, coal processing, or other mining -related energy sources (including geothermal, oil sands, oil shales, coal bed/mine methane, uranium, unconventional oil sources through mining, etc.). Eligible students may submit one application in consideration for both the Coal & Energy Division Scholarship and the John Sidney Marshall Memorial Scholarship. The John Sidney Marshall Memorial Scholarship, funded by AIME, is administered by the Coal & Energy Division and awarded annually to one or more undergraduate mining engineering students planning to pursue careers in the coal mining industry.

Mine Ventilation Scholarship – Varies

The Scholarship (Mine Ventilation Scholarship) was established in 2014 by the SME Underground Ventilation Committee in honor of Dr. Malcolm J. McPherson, John R Marks and Dr. Rudolf Greuer, all world renowned ventilation experts; and all other ventilation engineers who have given their careers to the improvement of mine ventilation. The SME Underground Ventilation Committees gives this scholarship to improve the mine ventilation profession through education of mining engineers ultimately improving the safety and health of underground miners. The Scholarship is awarded annually to one or more students pursuing a graduate degree in mining or minerals engineering, with a desire to use their skills to apply mine ventilation technology to improve the safety and health in the underground mining environment.

George V. Weisdack Memorial Scholarship – Varies

The George V. Weisdack Memorial Scholarship (Weisdack Scholarship) was established in 2011 by James W. Boyd, Chairman of John T. Boyd Company and the Pittsburgh Section of SME (SME Pittsburgh) for promising college students to continue their education in mining engineering, mineral engineering and mineral, ore and coal processing in memory of George V. Weisdack. The Weisdack Scholarship is awarded annually to a student pursuing an undergraduate degree in mining engineering, mineral engineering and mineral, ore and coal processing.

The Mining and Metallurgical Society of America and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, & Exploration Foundation offer one significant scholarship (MMSA/SMEF Presidential Scholarship) on an annual basis to an outstanding student whose study program encompasses any aspect of the extractive minerals industry.

The Powder River Basin Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers is pleased to make scholarships available to qualified applicants for the 2018-2019 academic year. Awarded amounts can range from $500 to $2000, with the number of scholarships awarded generally ranging from 10 to 20.

Charlotte Hearn Davis Scholarship – Varies

The Charlotte Hearne Davis Scholarship is awarded to a member of the Freshman Senate at the University of Wyoming.
The recipient shall be determined, in part, by the qualifications he/she provides in a written resume of campus and community involvement, awards, and employment.

James C. Hurst Scholarship – Varies

The James C. Hurst Scholarship is awarded to a Student Mentee in the Minority Student Leadership Initiative at the University of Wyoming and must have demonstrated dedication to, and involvement in, the Minority Student Leadership Initiative.

The recipient shall be determined, in part, by the qualifications he/she provides in a written resume of campus and community involvement, awards, and employment. The recipient shall also be determined, in part, by a 750 word essay.


ARMA Wyoming Vicki Carroll Memorial Scholarship – Varies

Vicki Carroll was one of the original chapter members when the Wyoming Chapter of ARMA was chartered in 1979. She served on multiple board positions, and was President from 1997 to 1999. Vicki was an active, positive and encouraging RIM professional until her life was cut short by a tragic disease. In 2006 the chapter honored Vicki’s work and dedication to the chapter by naming its scholarship and educational opportunities after her.

The Vicki Carroll Memorial – Scholarship Fund has been updated to assist ARMA Wyoming members in furthering their education in the dynamic field of records and information management. Scholarship awarding is managed by the Wyoming Chapter of ARMA Board.

This scholarship will have a minimum value of $1,000 each semester and will be awarded the fall and spring semesters following application. Previous recipients are encouraged to apply again with the understanding that the most qualified applicants will receive the scholarship.Funds shall be used to make scholarship grants to students enrolled in the University of Wyoming.

Chinese Ambassador’s Wyoming Scholar – Varies

The Chinese Ambassador’s Wyoming Scholar (CAWS) Program was established through the generosity of the Government of the People’s Republic of China and its Ambassador to the U.S. in 2007.The program funds one UW student for one year of study in China and is a full scholarship covering most expenses associated with the study, other than travel to China.The award goes to an outstanding student with a desire to pursue study in China in any discipline, including but not limited to study of the Chinese language.

ASUW Child Assistance Scholarship – Varies

The Student Government of the Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW) is dedicated to serving and representing the best interest of each student on campus. Nearly one in three students attending UW is a non-traditional student. These students make up a diverse group with a variety of life experiences, backgrounds, skills, responsibilities and needs. To lighten the financial difficulty of students who are parents, ASUW has created a the ASUW Childcare Assistance Scholarship.

Clifford C Hatch Memorial Scholarship – 6000

The scholarship honors the memory of Clifford C. Hach, who, together with his wife Kathryn Hach, founded the Hach Company in 1946.
This recipient of the scholarship will retain the scholarship for four years, provided he or she maintains at least a 3.0 GPA and remains a chemistry major. The value of the scholarship is $6,000 per year.


Various Eagle Scholarships Academic Scholarships – 25000

Academic scholarships weigh academic performance, school and Scouting participation, and financial need.
Academic scholarships include a range of scholarships, up to four $25,000 scholarships (payable at $6,250 per year for four years) one $48,000 scholarship (payable at up to $12,000 per year for four years) and a $50,000 STEM scholarship for an Eagle Scout planning to major in a science, technology, engineering, or math field.

The Senior Caregiver Scholarship is intended for students who currently serve as caregiver for an elderly friend or relative, or have been caregivers in the past. The award can be used towards tuition and/or books.

Seniorcare.com Aging Matters Schilarship – 1500

The Aging Matters scholarship is available to students who currently care for an elderly loved one, work in the senior care field, or are pursuing a career that will positively impact the elder population. The award can be used towards tuition, books, room and board, and other school-related expenses.

Teens for Alzheimer’s Awareness Scholarship – 5000

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America holds a yearly teen scholarship essay contest which asks high school seniors who have been affected by Alzheimer’s disease to write about their experience and how it impacted their lives. In 2018, AFA awarded $30,000 in college scholarships to contest winners, including a $5,000 grand prize.

The Caring.com Scholarship – 1500

The Student-Caregiver Scholarship provides financial assistance to students who are caring for an adult relative while enrolled in college.
Two scholarships of $1,500 are awarded each year to student-caregivers to help cover costs of tuition and books.
