The Hot Springs County Education Endowment Foundation Thermopolis Elks Club – Varies

This scholarship recognizes the qualities of scholarship, leadership, and service. These qualities are founding principles of our local Elks Club members. Local membership generously established this scholarship in 2015.

The Hot Springs County Education Endowment Foundation Washakie Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution – Varies

Washakie Chapter NSDAR was founded in Thermopolis on February 26, 1925. The mission of the organization is to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

Many community activities have been supported such as: Gift of the Waters Pageant Days, Books for Babies, and public library donations. The Chapter helped preserve Hot Springs County history with monuments at Chief Washakie Bath, Smoky Row Cemetery, Yates-Roberts Ferry Crossing, WWII Memorial Grove, and the flagpole at Riverside Cemetery. Constitution Week and Flag Day activities were promoted under the DAR leadership. After ninety-three years, the Chapter was dissolved in Thermopolis in 2017. A scholarship was then established to recognize the qualities found in the DAR GOOD CITIZEN AWARD: dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.


The Hot Springs County Education Endowment Foundation John and Christine Bolich Scholarship – Varies

John Bolich worked for fifty years as a coal miner at Gebo. He had no formal education but wanted his sons to GO TO SCHOOL. Christine Bolich had to quit school to help raise her siblings. She was self-taught and worked in Thermopolis successfully for many years. She retired as an administrator at the Wyoming Pioneer Home. Their son, Don, established a graduate school scholarship to honor their sacrifices and strong belief in education.

The Hot Springs County Education Endowment Foundation John and Christine Bolich Scholarship – Varies

Sandee was raised in Thermopolis and graduated from HSCHS in 1965. She wanted to be a nurse from age eleven. Her dream was realized with degrees from Casper College and the University of Oregon. She served in many nursing positions around the country during for forty-year career including Director of Nursing at HSCMH and as school nurse for HSCSD#1.

She loved her husband, two children, and family. She remained a nurse her entire life, offering help and advice always. Jim Garrelts, her husband, established a nursing/medical Endowment scholarship in her memory in 2016.


The Hot Springs County Education Endowment Foundation Margaret and James K. John Scholarship – Varies

Margaret and “Jim” John moved to Thermopolis in 1958. Margaret owned and operated “The Shoppe” floral business for 25 years. “Jim” was regional manager of Mountain Bell until his retirement in 1978. In order to honor their community involvement, their four children established a wildlife/natural resources scholarship.

The Hot Springs County Education Endowment Foundation Anabel Cookie Miley Scholarship – Varies

“Cookie” came from a Wyoming pioneer family.She retired to Thermopolis and grew to love the community. “Cookie” had a passion for education and wanted to impact future generations. She lived to be 100 years old. A nursing scholarship honors her benevolent contribution to the Endowment.

The Hot Springs County Education Endowment Foundation Red Rock Family Practice Scholarship – Varies

Red Rock Family Practice was established in 2000 in Thermopolis. Many critical medical services are provided by these caregivers to the citizens of Hot Springs County. The Clinic established an Endowment Scholarship in 2015. This scholarship assists undergraduate students pursuing careers in medical fields.

Wyoming Gas Company Scholarship – Varies

Wyoming Gas Company (WGC) has delivered natural gas to homes and businesses in the Big Horn Basin since 1909. The communities currently served are Basin, Burlington, Byron, Greybull, Manderson, Thermopolis, and Worland, Wyoming.

NILE Northern International Livestock Exposition Scholarship – 2000

For almost 30 years, the NILE has awarded scholarships to deserving FFA and 4-H students that have been actively involved in their respective programs and communities, excelled in the classroom, and participated in NILE events. “”Promoting the future of agriculture through the support of youth via scholarships is a long-standing tradition of NILE.”” says Jennifer Boka, General Manager of the NILE. “”Educating today’s youth to be tomorrows proponents is crucial to the entire world and we at the NILE are proud to support and embrace the future of agriculture.””
Similar to previous years, the NILE Scholarship Committee will be awarding five levels of scholarships.

American Chemical Society Chemistry Scholarship Entering Freshman Wyoming Section – Varies

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist a qualified high school graduate in beginning his/her study of chemistry at the University of Wyoming. The scholarship will consist of an award up to the equivalent of full resident tuition for the freshman year. In the event a student already has a tuition scholarship to the University, a cash award may be made, the exact amount to be fixed by the awards committee, after consideration of the student’s financial need.

American Chemical Society The E.R. Schierz Scholarship in Chemical Sciences – 1000

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist a qualified student majoring in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemical Engineering who has completed at least one year of the appropriate prescribed program at the University of Wyoming.

The scholarship will consist of an award up to $1000 for the following academic year. In the event a student already has a tuition scholarship to the University, a cash award may be made, the exact amount to be fixed by the Awards Committee, after consideration of the student’s financial needs. This award shall be designated as the “”E.R. Schierz Chemistry Scholarship Award.””

CWC Student Ambassador Scholarship – 3000
The CWC Student Ambassador Scholarship (previously known as the CWC Quality Leader scholarship,) is awarded to students who show special promise to be leaders in the classroom and in campus activities. Student Ambassadors are a highly visible group on campus who act as representatives & recruiters for the college and participate in campus activities. Student Ambassadors donate 40 hours each semester in student ambassador work, such as giving campus tours and helping with various campus events.
AQHF Adrianna Andreini Scholarship – Varies

Ideal candidates are a current AQHYA or AQHA member with a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average. Members may apply beginning their sophomore year of college. Current or previous AQHF scholarship recipients are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Funding for this scholarship may be applied to a four-year undergraduate and or two-year graduate level degree program of the student’s choice.

AQHF Youth Scholarship – Varies

Ideal candidates are members of AQHYA or AQHA who have completed a minimum of three years cumulative membership; are ranked within the upper 25% of their high school graduating class; exhibit an affinity for the advancement of the American Quarter Horse, and demonstrate leadership potential. Members must be a high school or home schooled senior when applying. Students currently enrolled as a first-year college freshman are not eligible for consideration. Current or previous AQHF scholarship recipients are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average. Funding for this scholarship will be applied to a four-year undergraduate degree program of the student’s choice.

Ideal candidates are a current AQHYA or AQHA member with a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average. Member must apply during their senior year of high school. Current or previous AQHF scholarship recipients are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Ideal candidates are a current member of AQHYA or AQHA with a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average. Member must apply during their senior year of high school or while enrolled at an accredited college, university or vocational school. Current or previous AQHF scholarship recipients are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Funding for this scholarship may be applied to either a two or four-year undergraduate degree program of the student’s choice.

AQHF Scoop Vessels Scholarship – Varies

Ideal candidates are current members of AQHA who demonstrate a strong work ethic and financial need. Members must apply while enrolled as a sophomore in an accredited college or university. Recipient must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average. Funding for this scholarship will be applied to the junior and senior year of a four-year undergraduate degree program of the student’s choice.

Ideal candidates have been a member of AQHA for at least one year who is attending an AVMA-accredited college of veterinary medicine; whose studies focus on equine medicine and or surgery, and has a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average. Recipient must pursue an equine-focused veterinary practice. Applicant must be enrolled as a third year veterinary school student when applying. Funding for this scholarship will be applied to the student’s last year of the veterinary program.

Ideal candidates are applicants who have experience within the racing industry or are seeking a career in the industry. Applicants seeking a career in the racing industry may specialize in veterinary medicine, racetrack management or other related fields. Applicants may apply during their senior year of high school or while enrolled at an accredited college, university or vocational school, and must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average. Funding for this scholarship may be applied to a two or four-year degree program as specified above.

AQHF Jay Pumphrey Animal Sciences Scholarship – Varies

Ideal candidates are current AQHYA or AQHA members from Texas with a rural farming and or ranching background; has a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average, and who wishes to pursue a major in animal science or a large animal-related degree from Tarleton State University or Texas A&M University. Member must apply during their senior year of high school. Current or previous AQHF scholarship recipients are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Funding for this scholarship will be applied to a four-year undergraduate degree program as specified above.

AQHF Guy Stoops Professional Horsemens Family Scholarship – Varies

Ideal candidates are current AQHA or AQHYA members whose parent(s) are a current member of the AQHA Professional Horseman’s Association, with membership in good standing for three or more years. Members must apply during their senior year of high school or while enrolled at an accredited college, university or vocational school. Recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average. Funding for this scholarship may be applied to either a two or four-year undergraduate degree program of the student’s choice.

AQHF Arizona Quarter Racing Scholarship – Varies

Ideal candidate is a current member of AQHYA or AQHA, and the Arizona Quarter Racing Association. Member should apply during their senior year of high school or while enrolled at an accredited college, university or vocational school. Recipient must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average. Funding for this scholarship may be applied to either a two or four-year degree program of the student’s choice.

CWC Employee Scholar – Varies

Full-time, benefited employees, defined as those working 40 hours per week during their employment period, are eligible to receive a 100 percent tuition and general fees scholarship for up to three (3) credits per semester. Dependents of full-time, benefited employees are eligible to receive a 50 percent tuition and general fees scholarship. There is no credit limit for dependents.

Less than full-time, benefited employees are eligible to receive a 50 percent tuition and general fees scholarship for up to three (3) credits per semester.

Ideal candidates have been a member of AQHYA or AQHA for at least one year who is from Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi or Tennessee, and who competes in AQHA-approved shows. Member must apply during their senior year of high school or while enrolled at an accredited college or university. Recipient must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average. Current or previous AQHF scholarship recipients are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Funding for this scholarship will be applied to a four-year undergraduate degree program of the student’s choice.

Student should be actively involved with AzQHA. Member must apply during their senior year of high school or while enrolled at an accredited college, university or vocational school. AQHA Region One Quarter Horse Youth Scholarship – Varies

Ideal candidates must reside within Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Oregon or Washington, and have been a member of AQHYA or AQHA, as well as one of the above AQHA state affiliates for at least one year.
